Kate Johnston talks to animals, fairies, and the characters in her books. A self-described modish gladiator, she can juggle family, writing, freelancing, and Life with her eyes closed–but not necessarily with style.
She began her freelancing career in college helping fellow students figure out where commas really go. Kate founded Musefly Writing Studio four years ago as an information and resource site for her local writing students.
Imagination. That’s your first step. The path of imagination will lead you into rare, beautiful worlds.
I believe everyone can write, but not all of us are gifted with knowledge or skill. Writing is easy; writing well, writing artfully, is stupendously difficult.
Some of us need a bit of hand-holding in overcoming lack of confidence, writer’s block, or time management problems. Others of us need help with grammar and book structure. No matter where you are at in your own book writing quest, I can help you accomplish your goals.
I specialize in coaching other writers on fiction and non-fiction. I host workshops, online courses, and coffee chats that emphasize the joy of writing.

I won first place in a contest for my short story, “Shattered,” which is published in Compass Points: Stories from Seacoast Authors. I am also published in Wolf Warriors, The Greensilk Journal, and Northeast Wolf Coalition.
For fun, I hike, read, bake ooey-gooey desserts, and spend time with my wondamagilicious family. And purposely write fragments.
